Thanks to a kind nomination from Emerge I have been shortlisted by The Hospital Club and the The Independent in their 100 Brave New Futures list for my efforts in setting up the studio over the past year.

Votes very much count between now and the 25th June. Therefore, if you like and believe in what I'm trying to establish, I'd very much appreciate your say. Please go to: http://www.thehospitalclub.com/100/index.php. You will find me in the Design category under 'emerging'.

Hooray for two things: 1) We won the Super Skills logo pitch and 2) I like this:

Why stand around all weekend when you could knock a hole in a brick wall?! This... hopefully.. is the last of the building work. All that's left to do now is build a window frame. All in a day's work!

Just when we thought we were done with the renovations: we've decided to knock a 3rd window through the wall - a little more lumiere is required you see!

The studio is VERY nearly finished. Once the everything is in we'll post some images of the finished article. For now, here are 2 desks in the making - both 'scrap wood from Dad's garage + Ikea + power tools' hybrids.

My good friend and trusted mentor, Oded Ezer, was also in London this week. It was wonderful to welcome him to LCC and to see such a warm response to his work from the staff and students. Special thanks to Teal Triggs and Ian Noble. Typographic homage to Oded, posted below, by Patrick Hoelscher and Joshua Hibbert.

I've spent the last two weeks at The Chase in Manchester - thanks to the whole team for having me, especially Peter Richardson and Lionel Hatch. While i've been on trains back and forth to the city, the builders have been in the little studio. The ceiling is now nearly finished and the storage has been built. There is optimism in the air.

Over a month ago I was beginning to think it was maybe getting a little too cold for this renovations lark. How wrong I was - December was mild! Now it's -18 and we're still doing the studio roof... and replacing a window frame.. in the snow. Happy (cold) days! I've also got my beady eye on a few architectural reclamation yards for studio furniture. Do send our regards to Ikea.

I'm beginning to question why I started doing this in winter?! Despite loosing a lot of feeling in my fingers and toes... all is well. The roof is now all clear and ready to be insulated, the walls have had their first lick of fresh paint and all dead cables have been pulled from the beams. Exciting.

From Lucy: I have 4 weeks left in Tel Aviv working with Oded Ezer and in anticipation of returning to British soil, lucybrownstudio.com is going live. In November we'll be scrubbing up a beautiful red brick shed in leafy Cheshire to move in for December. It will be a joy to have all books in one place! Let the games commence.
